It's forgivable in certain circumstances... When people post leaked Nile or Opeth it's really not going to hurt the band, but smaller local bands like this posting their album for free could hurt sales significantly.
Yea, I know alot of people say if they like the album they'll go buy it, but sexcrement has 3 free tracks on their myspace.
if people get those three songs, that's enough to decide weather they like the album and if they will buy it or not.
Then again, I don't speak on behalf of the band, maybe they don't even care for all I know, but I'm sure Josh will chime in and give his input.

the one thing it does do is give the band more exposure...

If i put lots of hard work into an album, and I had it released on some type of label. And had people downloading it instead of buying it. I am not sure how much I would give a shit about album sales. Most contracts give very little back to the band. Unless of course you buy a copy from the band themselves.
If you are concerned about supporting the band, then buy a shirt and go to the show. The small percentage they get from the cd sale is insignificant.

just think of it this way, it cost around 1200 bucks to get the cd printed alone, plus what ever they paid for recording the cd. Thats a lot of fuckin money, and how are they gonna keep playing shows and record another cd if they cant even make that money back cause people are all gettin they're stuff for free.

I was kinda thinking the same thing about the Godless Rising cd that was just posted up here, and I was kinda surprised that this guy posting the links to download the albums on here wasnt getting the same reaction.

Honestly, it doesn't matter. Whether right or wrong, it's out there. And it will continue to be there, and over time more and more stuff will be more and more easily available. The whole "industry" is due for a massive shift.
People can download and share albums easily nowadays. The smart bands will find ways to take advantage of this. The not so smart ones (or the stuck-in-tradition ones) will gripe and groan and miss the bandwagon entirely.
Personally, if I saw a bunch of people downloading the Pillory album (when I was still in the band) I would have been pretty happy, and even encouraged it. Sure, selling 10 CD's at $10 a pop during a show is great, and put money in our pocket. But I would much rather play a show in a city where I knew that hundreds and hundreds of kids already had it, and that the club would be PACKED when we played.
I really have no interest in selling CD's for profit (or to recoup expenses) in the future. I am more interested in exposure, and distribution. There has always been far more money to be made with show attendance and merch sales.
That said, this is one album I won't download. Despite my own beliefs, I don't feel like getting punched in the face by Josh Staples.

For the record, this is coming from someone who was in the band for most of its first year and continues to help the band out in any way possible, so I like to think my opinion is somewhat valid on this issue.
