Not to mention the fact that apples, onions, potatoes, garlic (unless stated) comes from China or surrounding Asian third world countries or Indian, Pakistan, Mexico et cetera.

For the sake of debate, it also takes a lot of vegetables and grains to raise a calf to adulthood and then consume its meat or milk. it would be more efficient instead to consume those vegetable and grains directly instead of breeding those animals. Factory farming also produces tons of animal waste which pollutes the environment. Not to mention the acres and acres of rainforest cut down to raise cattle for meat consumption, mainly to import to the U.S.

Actually it's making me want to pick up a gallon of milk on the way home, then stop and fill up a jug of gasoline, find the nearest PETA member, douse him/her in said gasoline, light them aflame, and chug my milk while they scream and burn in agony.

Haha.
I don't like the way PETA operates either. There are many more non profit organizations for animals that aren't so in your face and offensive.

Thats great, I'm glad you've read an Earth First pamphlet.
But, those grains usually come from the same areas as those forementioned rainforests to supply the needs of the farmers. Ofcourse, your speaking of South America where yes, alot of (if not most) meat from major distributors and chain restaurants get their product. But, if America stopped eating meat today I believe it would change very little. These folks that outsource our economic stability and import crap from nations with no value for human suffering, animal or environmental will just corner the Fruit and Vegetable market tenfold thus creating more deforestation, pollution you name it. It's a lose lose situation.
Do some homework and tell me with "facts" that a Macrobiotic society in America would help create less human suffering and environmental impact on the rest of the world. Rememer, you have to figure out how to solve this problem this within the margins of United States economic and agricultural laws and policies...Not unrealistic idealism.

This is more of an issue of bad politics. But see, PETA people are afraid to roll up their sleeves and get down to the real problems that plague Animals the Environment and Humans alike. PETA is like "Subversion Lite" for yuppies and actors.

Best thing to do is just be Apolitical,Eat Meat and Don't Read Books. If everyone did that. Nobody would look like an asshole in an others eyes and then the whole world will just sleepwalk into oblivion.

I have spoken.

What I think is awesome is the fact that without meat on the table, there wouldn't be people at all today. Meat fed our forefathers, and you vegetarians piss all over the hand that has fed you, due to the beliefs that you have been taught by your sick, cry-for-the-animals society.

How are your beliefs any different from those of the Christians, or any other religion for that matter? You all gravitate to the cause the same way that religious zealots do; yet you condemn religion. I'm baffled.

And soy milk...that's bullshit on a stick. There's no such thing as soy milk. Know how come I know there's no such thing as soy milk? Because there's no soy tit, is there? i don't know a lot, but i know you've gotta have a breast for milk. It's soy juice. But they couldn't sell soy juice, so they called it soy milk. Because anytime you say soy juice, you actually... start to gag.

Is Ted Nudge your daddy?

I'm not a vegetarian. Of course our 'forefathers' (and mothers) ate meat to survive, but we no longer NEED to eat meat to survive (nor have we ever technically, but we've become more resourceful over time). Just because society embraced a certain way of life years ago doesn't mean it's not fucking stupid in today's. Just sayin'.

in other words, in some cultures it's been completely normal for the men to rape women and cut off their clitorous's, China eats dogs and poop, Germany pee's on each other, ect. Just because they've done it for generations and generations doesn't mean it's not ridiculous!

the funny thing is, we humans are omnivores, meant to eat both vegetables and meat. does anyone really truly believe that through the process of Earth evolution, which humans are a part of, that the food chain doesn't have animals that we are meant to consume, the same way that say worms are to birds? i'm not talking about polar bears here, i mean the cow would be parasitic if left unchecked. no, i don't necessarily agree with the consumption of animals you feel like eating, like shark or something, but really, i just don't believe that animals like chicken, pigs, cows and a few others like deer and turkey didn't evolve with some of the intentions being human consumption.

For those who believe in evolution, modern humans owe a bit of gratitude to early man/monkey/retardedfrogfish for its consumption of meat and its valuable concentration of proteins which helped develop the modern brain.

As a vegetarian I'd say PETA are pretty ineffectual. The ALF and Defenders of Wildlife get my support. Most meat-eaters like a good steak but they don't want to know how it got on their plate? Indeed the natural order of the animal kingdom is predator vs prey, but to make a point, I don't see bears, lions, or livestock chasing me down the street for their next meal.
It's one thing to hunt for your food and use every part of the animal like the Native American's did, but factory farms are complete bullshit. Animals living in sordid conditions, suffering abuse, and bred for one purpose: Slaughter. There's something wrong with that.
Something like 20 billion factory farmed slaughter animals consume about 40% of the worldwide grain harvest. Highly nutritious plant foods that are necessary for the human diet get exported from poor nations and used as animal feed.
I'm never one preach or convince anyone to convert to vegan/vegetarianism, but those who would attack others for their personal choices with insults such as "hippies" or "faggots" can fuck off.

my problem isn't with the way of life you choose for yourself or raising awareness. It's shock value tactics like this that are akin to idealistic terrorism that is really just embarrassing for everyone involved.

Yup, like I said, PETA is stupid and from what I've experienced, they're not as dedicated to their cause as they claim. PETA are viewed as the leaders of the animal rights movement simply because they're the most widely known organization supporting this cause. The ALF takes action while PETA just stages stunts and photo-op's. Many vegetarians and vegans I know feel the same way.

For example, PETA's website has these voting polls and ridiculous contests like "Vote for the sexiest vegetarian celebrity!". Why the fuck would I care about anything like that? I thought this was about advocating for animal rights? Not catering to pop culture stupidity.

I'm ignorant....and I'll enjoy my frist steak & cheese in months today for lunch.

ps. farmland(whether for live stock or crops) destroys habitats and small ecosystems consisting of mice, hawks, snakes, and a variety of arthopods. No matter what were still killing animals/making their lives difficult.

[Sep 26,2008 10:26am - Mikeofdecrepitude ""]
That's also correct. Another argument against vegetarianism is that plants are alive too, so we shouldn't eat them. I guess it's all one big catch 22. Basically no matter what we do, it's screwing up something, but a factory farm is still far worse than a local one.
