I mean that's like bitching about the last million bond movies because Sean connery isn't Bond |

_____________________________ [Mar 17,2007 7:58pm - pam ""] Actually Ripper is horrible and I can't stand him. His voice is a C level at best. He's everyone's "better than nothing" replacement for amazing vocalists. |
________________________________________ [Mar 18,2007 12:05am - y_ddraig_goch ""] yeah well Marlow aint ever coming back, well atleast not until they piss off enough fans and then make a bunch of money with a return tour. They should find someone else, that is true. but personally I don't mind the new guy too much |
________________________________________ [Mar 18,2007 12:28am - Neverpurified ""] he's not bad, despite the fact that he puts NO emotion into the ballads and he sounds like billy corgan...except for when he's trying to be Halford. At least Barlow had his own voice, and put tons of emotion into the songs. listen to "watching over me" song written about someone barlow never met, but you'd swear he knew the guy forever. then listen to "when the eagle cries" a song about a tragedy that affected all of us, and ripper displays almost no emotion. the only reason i can listen to the glorious burden and enjoy it is the fact that musically it's one of schaffer's best albums....gettysburg was amazing. i just dont enjoy ripper being a standard, run-of-the-mill power metal singer |
_______________________________ [Mar 18,2007 1:29am - Arist ""] Barlow was the treasure of Iced Earth, no other voice would fit on the Burnt Offerings album as his did or bring that kind of atmosphere to the music, just incredible. I don't want to hear owens ever sing those because he half-asses it with his generic 80s vibrato, that's why I can safely say I stopped listening to IE when matt left, Barlow or break up. |
_____________________________ [Mar 18,2007 2:49am - pam ""] Ripper has no emotion, no originality, and no definition. That's why he's nothing but everyone's good enough replacement. Barlow was an original voice that brought the hook to Iced Earth. Without him it's nothing but Schaffer's noodling with a boring singer. Break.up. |
