That's what I mean; this can ultimately be planned out where it COULD make profit. The question is more about the funds for actually starting it.

I am efforting that as we speak. The owner was suppose to sell back in dec. to the guy who owned sound tropics on 138, but he cheated on his wife, she started divorce proceedings, the deal fell through, then it got shut down because of the sprinkler system, and they needed do something with the sewer line to the street. they are looking at a lot of money to get all this up and running, all the while it is sitting dormaint and costing them money, I am sure I can get the monkey of off their back for cheap, and with alll the people I know in this bizz I can get the work done for half the price.

depending on the condition of the building, it could take some time and money with contracting. it's a good thing you're a GC, though. I'm thinking about scoping it out sometime soon, just to get a rough idea of what it looks like now.

It's not in bad shape. structurally it's sound. aesthetically it need some work. I would say from starting the process to doors open 6-9months tops. If your serious, we should get together and hash some o' this shit out. My weekends during the day are out cause i work at King Richards but my nights after 7 are free, that is if you can deal with a bunch of rennies running around. Weekdays I am free anytime.

aril: i think if this happens you should consider what i was saying about brewing beer, not only is it much cheaper, but its much better beer for the money you spend on it.

yeah, i can't wait to bottle it, it should be pretty insane.
me and two of my friends created it with some pretty insane ingredients.

the fruits, hops and herbs in this brew were all grown in my buddy marcus' back yard

and we raised the sweetness, and alcohol by adding honey, fresh cane sugar, agave nectar and vanilla flavored corn syrup.

nice, i just did real heavy imperial porter, its in its second as well, with charred oak chips in it. I've been doing all grain because i feel the texture is just so much better than extract recipes. How do you roll, all grain or extract? And do you shop at modern home brewer outside porter? If not where do you buy your stuff? We've only been doin it for about two years now, or just under two years, so we've done a bunch of clone recipes, ya know, just getting the feel of what things to change in recipes to achieve certain flavor/texture. But i think we've done 8 original recipes so far. Mostly heavy stuff, coffee porter, a couple different imperials, and a couple pale-ish ales to try and have stuff that is ready to drink faster. How about lambics? Have you done any of those? I started reading about them and havent done any yet. I guess you have to culture your own yeast for a couple years to make one, but as i understand it, once you do that you can use that same yeast for numerous batches, with each one having slightly different characteristics. Do you know about this? Am i saying it correctly?

So listen to this idea, i brew all my beer with my buddy Aaron, and we came up with this idea to brew using those flavor trippin berries. Have you heard of those? They make anything that's bitter or heavily acidic REALLY sweet, so we are gonna brew with the cheapest super high alpha acid level hops, with the hope that the berries will make the hops taste great as opposed to real crappy so we will spend very little on our hops. Granted, this beer would be a very strange one and we are not gonna focus on it, its more of an experiment than anything.

We haven't done anything that required the belgian corker, everything we do is cap-able. How much did you spend on your corker? Have you ever aged anything in barrels? I have been looking at prices for sherry barrels, port barrels, and scotch barrels. Trying to figure out which would be a good place to start. We were thinking about using chips from a port barrel in our imperial to round out the strong dark taste with a little light sweetness... and we've even played with the idea of charring the barrel chips first (like we are doing with the oak chips) and seeing if the resulting smoked flavor will still retain the sweet port essence.

God i love beer. I love brewing it even more than i love drinking it.

that sounds fucking good....porters are one of my favorite styles!
i usually do Partial Mash recipe's
but the tripel was mostly all grain....the malt sugars all came from grains, the fermentables we added in the boil were all fruits and adjuncts.

every once in a while if i'm feeling lazy, i'll do an extract batch though.
nice, quick brew day

i used to go modern brewer, but since attleboro is much closer to foxborough, and Blackstone, i tend to get my stuff at Blackstone Valley Brweing supply, and the Witches Brew

i am not a fan of lambic, but i do intend to make one, as my girl loves Framboise (raspberry lambic) and Kriek (cherry Lambic).
what you have heard about culturing your own yeast is one of many methods.....you can also get yeast strains and bacteria blends from white labs or wyeast....and there is also the practice of sour mashing (letting mash sit open overnight so it gets a sour flavor, then boiling away the bacteria and fermenting with a wheat yeast).

however, you should a always leave your lambics open (covered with a hop sock/nylon/grain bag) for wild yeast.....that is, if you want your own house flavor.

no matter how you do it, let it sit in primary for at least a month, secondary for at least a year, and in bottles for another year, and always get a culture from the primary and one from the secondary and blend them for your next lambic batch.

your experiment sounds like a cool idea....
the best parts about experimenting with brewing beer is that
1. it's fun as shit
2.if ya don't like it immediately, aging can do wonders
3.if after a year, ya still don't like it, you can trade with another homebrewer who may like it more than you do.

i still don't have a corker....i always bottle with caps.....as long as you have reusable and re-capable 22 oz or 750 ml bottles, you can bottle belgians.

although i admit, i really would love to start using a corker..... maybe someday.

haven't done any barrel aging yet, but that is high on the priority list

i heard from my buddy dave you can get cheap used bourbon barrels (which are great for porters, stouts and barleywines) from Jim Beam.
they'll even ship it to you cheap.

yeah, homebrewing rules!

have you ever experimented with mead (honeywine) or braggot (half beer ingredients, half honey, fermented with a blend of wine yeast and lager yeast)?

that stuff is awesome.
fun and simple to make
high gravity and very tasty

oh....i forgot to mention.....when fermenting lambic
always (when racking into secondary - and again when racking into the bottling bucket - ) be very careful to stop the flow before any of the mold on the top lair gets into the racking hose......

ouch and orgy, what are the laws pertaining to brewing AND selling beer? That might be a different type of license all together. I am totally all for it! I personally like micro brew stuff.

when i brew it is usually on a weekend.
um, i'm trying to think....i get paid bi-weekly, and all my money this check is (pretty much) already spent.

so maybe the day after my next payday (saturday sep. 20)

if you guys will be around.

i'll try and get my buddy Joe to come too, he's the dude that taught me about brewing.

tell ya what....we will each spend fifteen to twenty bucks....and we'll make an experimental beer.
buy whatever you want, yeast strain, grains, adjuncts, extracts....
anything but hops (i have so many.....my friend who lives in the woods gave me like seven ounces of homegrown hops, and i have a 1 ounce vacuum sealed packet of challenger pellets)

maybe ten gallons (bring your own bucket) split into two fermenting buckets.

sound good?

orgy-sounds good to me. I will get my buddy involved too. I think i have an extra couple cases of 22oz bottles lying around too, for whenever we decide to bottle. So the 20th, its marked on my calender. I will even print labels at my work (ikon) so that we can have the beer have some satanic name/artwork... all the more fitting for a collaboration between us.

Me and my aforementioned buddy Aaron have been seriously talking about starting our own brewing company and trying to market to local restaurants/bars/liquor stores. Because of this, at some of the beer fests we've gone to I've asked a couple different brewers for info about license to make/distribute beer. Apparently its not that hard, so i think if we looked into it, we could totally handle it.

Whether or not the "metal club" idea gets off the ground, i will definitely still be brewing beer; and still trying to start a brew company. If we succeed in such a thing we would be all about help (orgy) from people we know to get more different kinds of beers to offer. I have been scoping out the storage place across from my place. They have air conditioned storage that would be great for storing fermenting beer, that is unless we get someplace with a good basement first.

in my book, metal and beer go hand-in-hand so I think it's a brilliant idea.
as far as the as the "metal bar" thing goes, as we've touched above, there's going to have to be some themes included which would draw a crowd. a successful business is always open to change - but as far actually losing sight of the original plan? you don't want to do that. having homebrews at a bar would, at least in my opinion, be somewhat original and would make it more unique.

you know i'm down....i will help with recipe formulation, and even work part time for little or no cash until we get it off the ground and make enough that we can all enjoy the profits.....then i'll start using vacation days to blow off work and make more beer, so we can make more money, until we can all quit our fucking jobs!

i just wanna say that i am totally serious about this. I only take a few things really seriously in my life: Drums, Beer, Drugs, Books. Thats about it. and i think that between me and my buddy, and you and yours, we probably have enough beer knowledge, and passion to make some brews that will be absolutely delicious. and the overhead isnt too crazy either, when we decide to brew real big batches (after we test em all out, and decide what we're gonna mass produce) we will have to buy a candy stove, and some bigger tanks to ferment in, but even that stuff wont be too much money. So lets fucking do this. ouchdrummer@gmail.com

Wanted to add my two cents on the Satanic issue. I believe the Temple of the Black Light makes an intriguing case for Luciferic-gnosticism. Not viewing Satan/Lucifer as an archetype or even an anthropomorphic entity. Rather, a universal force or current (a consciousness?) that lingers throughout the cosmos, when cosmos spawned from the nothingness of chaos. Their teachings are based off of numerous esoteric left hand traditions and ancient Sumerian chaos-gnosticism.
