I have been trying to work up a plan with the guy who runs the venue but unfortunately, this is what it's come down to. The police came into the room the other week and found there was alcohol being sold without a liquor license. If the place continues to have bands play here (and pay rent on the space), the following policies are to be effective immediately, in cooperation with the building manager and the law:

1) BYOB - bring your own booze. The venue can't sell any alcohol of any kind anymore, and getting a liquor license is senseless for the establishment at this time (both unaffordable and a losing proposition). A lot of people will see this as a welcomed change, but the venue apologizes to those who are sad about this.
2) $10 donation at the door - I have argued against anything higher because I feel people will stop coming out if it's any more expensive. It was $5 before for all shows, but since it's BYOB now, in order to continue paying bands from far and wide to come and play from only the door money, the price must be bumped up a little bit. This price applies to all future shows that have been originally billed as $5.
3) All ages - I personally fought to keep this place an all ages venue but the guy who runs the place has put a 21+ sign outside of the door. Since this is BYOB, people who are under 21 will have ID's checked and hand-stamped differently.

In the future, things might ease up a bit. You will know on here or by word of mouth if things do change. All of the above modifications were unavoidable and the least we could do to keep the place from getting closed down. I really regret being the horse's mouth to share the news on these restrictions, but I think that these are reasonable and shouldn't deter many people from coming out and enjoying themselves. Please spread the word on these changes if you or anyone you know will be seeing or playing a show here, and I hope to see you all there in the future.

Did you advertise the address online or on flyers?

The cops were there because of kids under 21 having parties in other rooms. Local Everett kids. They heard music from behind the venue doors and they came in under suspicion of underage drinking, and were surprised to find a 21+ crowd watching Shabti play on stage.

Apparently, the weekend before that happened, there was a party downstairs with 150 underage kids that they broke up. The building manager has kicked out all the practice space renters under 21 because of this. They didn't even play music, just rented the place to throw parties. Good riddance.

Hopefully this doesn't turn into another "jeep shop" i.e. great DIY venue, but shut down due to idiots not realizing a great thing. $10 is perfect for shows, as long as the quality is there. The only drawback is the 21+ BYOB. Hopefully there aren't underagers drinking there, because it'll shut the place right down. Yeah, you can check IDs, but some kids are crafty and will drink if they really want to.

being able to be BYOB and all ages still seems like a win in my book.

So this is a 21+ show now or is it still all ages but just have to be stamped?

BYOB is always a win at clubs that used to serve booze.

They really need to deal with the rough elements like Dr. Evazan and Ponda Baba before the cops show up again.

And you can try to sweep the problem under the rug by claiming "I'll be careful" But you know what? You'll be dead.

Yeah that post confused me too. The shows are still all ages, just no alcohol is served.
